Message from the Principal Investigator

In our laboratory, we pursue medicinal chemistry research guided by the principle of “creating future medicines through the power of organic chemistry.” With organic chemistry as our foundation, we aim to develop new ideas, reactions, and molecular design strategies that contribute to drug discovery. At the same time, we seek to create molecules with the potential to become real drug candidates.
Drug discovery is a highly interdisciplinary field. It requires not only deep expertise in chemistry, but also a broad understanding of biology, pharmacology, and medicine, as well as the creativity to connect these areas in new ways.
Our laboratory brings together organic chemistry, biochemistry, computational chemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, and related fields. By combining these approaches, we seek to understand biological phenomena at the molecular level and to generate research outcomes that can benefit society.
We also place great importance on training the next generation of researchers. Our goal is to provide an environment where each student can engage deeply with their own research, think independently, and take initiative. Through research, we hope that students will experience the excitement of scientific discovery and the satisfaction of creating new value.

Recruitment of Graduate Students and Laboratory Members
The Department of Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering welcomes applications from prospective graduate students and laboratory members.
We are looking for students who meet the admission policy of our university’s graduate programs, including both the Master’s and Doctoral programs, and who have a strong interest in the research conducted in our laboratory. We also welcome applicants who share our laboratory’s research philosophy, educational policy, and goals.
We encourage applications from motivated individuals who are eager to take on new challenges in medicinal chemistry and related fields.

Our Training Policy

- We place great value on active discussion and encourage students to exchange ideas with faculty members and fellow laboratory members on a regular basis.
- We also provide opportunities for students to gain experience beyond the laboratory, including presentations at academic conferences, collaborative research with external partners, and other research-related activities outside the university.
Completion Criteria for Doctoral Course
- Acquiring advanced skills of synthesis/biochemistry (planning/execution).
- Ability to summarize/analysis/discuss the results and to propose the next work.
- Oral presentation at an academic conference
